29 Days Later Film Project and Screening Details

Purpose:
To give local filmmakers some extra motivation to make a film and get their projects completed in front of a screened audience. Whereas 48-hour projects are geared toward lightning-fast creation of a film, the 29 Days Later Project gives filmmakers of
Last years 29 Days Later kick offall abilities additional time to complete their work and create more polished products.

Prizes:
Winner receives one weekend of rentals*
(up to $1,000 value; see list below) from Absolute Independent Pictures and the prestigious Judith Rheiner Independent Spirit Award trophy; second place receives 8 hours of visual effects from Herron Designs ($200 value); and the third film will receive a $50 gift card from B&H Photo. A panel of three judges will be responsible for naming the top three films.

Kickoff:
Wednesday, July 14, 7 p.m., in Fells Point at
Waterfront Hotel, 2nd floor back bar/lounge area. At least one member of your team must be available to get prop and register!

Drop-off:
Thursday, August 12, 7:30 p.m. in Fells Point at Waterfront Hotel, 2nd floor back bar/lounge area. Teams must submit film at this time. Teams will have a 29 minute grace period, but films in after 7:59 p.m.
will not be eligible for awards and are at risk of not being screened. If you would like to submit your film early, please email us at 29daysfilm@gmail.com to arrange drop off.


Last years 29 Days Later screening was a sellout at the Creative AllianceScreenings:
Wed., August 18; 7 & 9:15 pm; Historic Patterson Theater (aka Creative Alliance) in Baltimore.
Note: Each team will receive three free tickets (plus one for team leader) when they turn in their completed movie!


Participants:
Please register here in advance
so we know how many teams to expect. We are capping at 24 teams and spaces fill up quickly so don't delay! 

Cost:
Some other local film projects are charging up to $155 per team; we are only asking a small fee to help us cover our expenses and time. Early
bird entry is $25 before Wednesday, June 30, 11:55 p.m.; after June 30, cost is $45. To qualify for early bird special, you must register online on payment must be postmarked by June 30 (contact 29daysfilm@gmail.com for more info on sending a check). Each team will be entitled to 3 free tickets plus a free ticket for the team leader for the screening (a $36 value)! 

Film details:
Film must be completed in 29 days and use a prop that we provide at the kickoff (it does not have to be the focus of the film). Films should be 4 to 8 minutes (you may add one additional minute of credits if desired). Preferred format is a Quicktime export file (.mov), but Mini-DV tape and DVDs are acceptable.

Rights:
Filmmakers own the rights to their films and may submit in
film festivals or look for distribution. We are only asking for the right to use still frames for promotional materials.
 
Discounts:
All projects are welcome to a 29% equipment rental discount from
Absolute Independent Pictures and 29% off any effects work from Herron Designs (both only valid during the 29-Day competition)!
